Program Description:

Powerful examples of effective prevention often involve public policy. For example, increasing the legal drinking age to 21 has saved tens of thousands of lives since it was enacted. Eliminating lead based paint, and lead based fuels, have reduced lead poisoning, thereby improving child cognitive and behavioral outcomes tremendously. What are the next public policy challenges and how can professionals and citizens become more effective in this process? Dennis Trask will share resources about how to be make public policy changes happen.

Program Presenter:

Dennis Trask, M.S. ,. has twenty years of successful experience in helping community anti drug abuse prevention coalitions, higher education institutions, schools and non-profit organizations achieve their goals. He has made contributions as a volunteer, staff member, executive director, board member & consultant. He has served and worked with professionals, volunteers, students and children at over 15 organizations across the Midwest, as well as successful candidates for elected office. Presently Dennis is in his 5th year as a school counselor at Imagine Academy of Environmental Science and Math, an urban K-8 Charter School serving 1,300 students in St. Louis. Dennis has presented numerous programs addressing public policy issues, advocacy, school counseling and prevention at local, regional, state and national conferences.

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health will award 1 clock hour or 1.2 contact hours (.1 CEU) for this activity.MIMH credit will fulfill Clinical Social Work and Psychologist licensure requirements in the State of Missouri. Attendees with licensure from other states are responsible for seeking appropriate continuing education credit, from their respective boards for completing this program.
