Description

Sexual behavior problems in children can often be an unusual and disconcerting problem that caregivers and providers confront. This presentation will provide an overview of overview of sexual development in childhood and a conceptualization of sexual behaviors among children. It will then discuss the basic components of an assessment for sexual behavior problems and treatment strategies.

Workshop Objectives:

– Describe typical sexual development among children and the indicators of sexual behavior problems.
– List the components of an assessment for sexual behavior problems.
– Discuss treatment strategies for children with sexual behavior strategies and safety recommendations.

Presenter

Megan Schacht, PhD is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Clinical Manager with the Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Illinois College and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in children/adolescents from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Dr. Schacht completed a pre-
doctoral internship at Aurora Mental Health Center in Aurora, CO where she received specialized training in providing treatment to adolescents who were in foster care, recently hospitalized, or involved with juvenile justice. As the Clinical Manager, Dr. Schacht oversees the clinical services provided at CASGSL which is the accredited Child Advocacy Center for St. Louis city and county and is a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. She also serves as a faculty member of the Missouri Academy of Child Trauma Studies (MoACTS) and teaches an undergraduate course at the university. Dr. Schacht has training and extensive experience in multiple trauma-informed, evidence-based practices. She has special professional interests in the areas of complex trauma, sexual abuse, psychological assessment of children and adolescents with trauma histories, clinical supervision, and the implementation of evidence-based practice.

The University of Missouri, Missouri Institute of Mental Health will be responsible for this program and will maintain a record of your continuing education credits earned. MIMH will award 1 clock hour or 1.2 contact hours (.1 CEU) for this program. MIMH credit will fulfill Clinical Social Work and Psychologist licensure requirements in the State of Missouri. Attendees with licensure from other states are responsible for seeking appropriate continuing education credit, from their respective boards for completing this program.
