Understanding Autism and Emotional Regulation

This program is designed for parents and professionals who support neurodiverse individuals and are seeking an understanding of the root causes of emotional regulation and how the unique neurobiology of autism plays a role. Participants will be engaged in discussions, problem-solving, and simulation activities to help make the content relevant. Dr. Bruno will bring examples from across the life spectrum including children, teens, and individuals being coached on job locations. If you want some ideas for helping a person learn to regulate themselves or need more strategies for de-escalating and individual, then this workshop is for you.

Objectives:

1. Describe the characteristics of Autism

2. Identify the most current criteria

3. List key strategies that are most effective

4. Identify the stages of Emotional Escalation

5. Describe corresponding de-escalation strategies for each level

Presenter:

Dr. John Bruno has been supporting neurodiverse individuals and their families for over 30 years in his roles as a professor, consultant, family coach, autism specialist, teacher trainer, supported employment job, coach, and corporate consultant. His most recent endeavors includes working with to bring new autism technologies to market as the Vice President of Programming and co-founder of iSocial. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has co-authored two books and professional journal articles.
