A Journey Through the Personality Disorders: Exploring Diagnosis and Treatment Approaches – Part 1

Could you benefit from an introduction or a refresher to personality disorders? These two workshops will introduce learners to the core 10 personality disorders and their associated clusters. Diagnostic criteria will be reviewed for each disorder, and case studies in written and video form will highlight core characteristics of disorders. Learners will be encouraged to use diagnostic skills to identify traits and symptoms of each disorder. General treatment protocols for each of the cluster categories will be presented, and learners will be given resources to explore more in-depth treatment approaches.

Objectives:

  1. Identify and classify the 10 personality disorders and their associated three clusters.
  2. Discover methods of assessing and diagnosing personality disorders using at least three assessment tools.
  3. Formulate accurate diagnostic profiles for personality disorders using the DSM-5.
  1. Recall five key treatment considerations regarding personality disorders.
  2. Outline a minimum of three general recommendations for treating personality disorders.
  3. Explain methods of provide quality care to clients with personality disorders.

Presenter:

Diane Bigler, LCSW, LSCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Kansas with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She has held clinical positions as an outpatient and in-home therapist and clinical supervisor. Diane was an Adjunct Professor of Social Work for 10 years at The University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare and a Field Liaison and Field Instructor. She has also held administrative positions as a program Director and Coordinator. Diane is a frequent local and national trainer on a wide variety of mental health and workplace development topics with clinicians and corporations. Diane is most passionate about providing quality professional development to clinicians, employees, and leaders. For fun, Diane loves to spoil her four Dachshunds and rock out to 80’s music.
