Program Description:
The goal of this research was to test Kim’s (2001) Integrative Theory of Communication and Cross-Cultural Adaptation using data from 67 Bosnian refugees in St. Louis, Missouri, obtained from a pilot study of a larger project. Findings suggest that host communication competence and host and ethnic social communication were used to serve different functions in the resettlement process of Bosnian refugees.
Program Presenter: Ajlina Karamehic-Muratovic, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri – Missouri Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Karamehic-Muratovic has received her PhD from the University of Kentucky at Lexington and completed her post doctoral studies at the Health Communication Research Laboratory, School of Public Health, at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO.
