People come through our doors in varying degrees of pain – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. They present ambivalent, apprehensive, or even defensive. It’s human nature that doing things in a certain way becomes comfortable. People tend to choose the familiar over the unfamiliar. Even when behaviors aren’t healthy, they are at least familiar.

Changing behaviors is not easy for human beings – even when life is going relatively smooth. Add an illness and the change process is even more challenging. Yet all individuals have an inherent potential for change. How do we – the professionals – unlock this intrinsic motivation and facilitate change rather than deter it?

During this workshop the skills of MI will be identified and – with a little fun – be practiced. And throughout, the aligning of motivational interviewing to each stage of change will be explored.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Motivational Interviewing in the framework of stages of change
  • Implement Motivational Interviewing Spirit, Principles, and Strategies
  • Build skill application of Motivational Interviewing
  • Engage Clients, Melt Resistance, and Reduce Your Take Home Stress
