River City Road Trips
The MIMH Professional Development Committee presents River City Road Trips with author and former MIMH Faculty Dean Klinkenberg, the Mississippi Valley Traveler.
Dean Klinkenberg is a St. Louis-based writer who gave up the world of academic psychology to write. He has published several guidebooks for the Mississippi Valley, a mystery series set in places along the Mississippi, and a book about disasters (Mississippi River Mayhem: Disasters, Tragedy, and Murder on Ol’ Man River). His natural history guide for the Mississippi will be released in spring 2024. His writing has appeared in publications including Smithsonian, The National (Amtrak’s magazine), the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, GoNomad.com, and Big River Magazine.
Here is what Dean says he will cover during this presentation:
“We take for granted the great places that are in our own backyard. In the Midwest, it’s the Mississippi River we overlook. I will reacquaint you with the Great River, and offer ideas about places to visit and trips to take that’ll get you up close and personal with the river’s natural wonders and the millennia of human history along its banks. You don’t have to travel outside of the US to find tasty local foods, rich cultural experiences, historic sites, outstanding architecture, and fun people. You’ll find plenty of that along the Mississippi River.”
Special thanks to the Professional Development Committee and Dean Klinkenberg for making this all happen.
